Welcome to East Aurora High School

We are in full swing of the second semester and things are going extremely well at East Aurora High School. The official start of second semester was Tuesday, Jan. 20, and this represents a new start for all students.
I encourage all students, in collaboration with their parents, to set lofty academic goals for this semester. The best way to set academic goals is to look at the previous semester’s accomplishments, as a beginning point. You should examine those classes closely that you feel you did well in and those that you feel you can do better at.
For those items that you feel you can improve on: create a goal and closely monitor it over the course of second semester. If you truly want to improve, this is one of the best ways to ensure it happens. Also, don’t forget to ask for help. I find students often are afraid or too shy to simply ask. All of our teachers at East Aurora High School are more than accommodating to students in need of help. It is important that students take advantage of this opportunity.
In addition, I encourage all students to build a relationship with their counselors, if they have not done so already. Students should set an appointment to meet with the counselor during their study hall, to build a relationship with their counselor. A student’s counselor is much more valuable than creating a class schedule. The better our counselors know and understand your child’s needs and future desires, the better we, as a school, can help them be successful.
The next benchmark date is Feb. 19, the day the first progress reporting period ends for the third quarter. Progress reports are a great source of information for students and parents to look at. It gives you an idea of where you currently are as a student with time to make a change. Please look for those reports in the mail late February or early March.

Sincerely,
Spencer S. Byrd
