East Aurora High School alumnus, Warren L. Dixon, Sr. will have the honor of serving as the Grand Marshal of the annual Aurora Independence Day Parade on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. The parade steps off at 10:00 a.m. at the corner of Benton and River Streets.
Warren L. Dixon Sr., better known as ‘Red’, is 96 years old and a proud graduate of the Class of 1934 at East Aurora High School. After high school, he served in the United States Navy in World War II and still remains very active with programs for veterans such as Honor Flight Chicago.
As noted in a Press Release issued by the City of Aurora: Mr. Dixon started Dixon Realty on Lake Street in the 1960s and eventually moved his business to Farnsworth Avenue, helping develop the Molitor Road intersection by building Daisy’s Flower and Gifts. He is the past president of the Aurora Board of Realtors and led the group to plant numerous trees along Lake Street and New York Street. A dedicated citizen, Dixon has been involved with the Catholic Charities Foster Children, Light the Night, Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, the Moose and is an honorary member of the Tiger Club. He also started the youth football program at Annunciation Church and had volunteered as a coach in the Aurora/Naperville area for more than 30 years.
Mr. Dixon will be honored by the City of Aurora during the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Aurora City Hall.
