Magnet Academy
 
Parents of D131 students currently attending 4th, 7th or 8th grade.  Your child may be able to participate in our new Magnet school program.  The Magnet School is designed to focus on math, science and technology and will begin with 150 students; fifty students in each of the three grade levels.

WHO: Any current 4th, 7th, or 8th grade student who is currently attending an East Aurora School and who meets the application criteria.

WHAT: An opportunity to attend a magnet school that will focus on innovative teaching and learning of math, science and technology.

WHERE:  The Magnet School will be implementing the school within a school concept.  Classes will be held at existing schools.  PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM SCHOOL. 

5th grade – O’Donnell Elementary School;
8th grade – Aurora Middle School Campus (on College Ave)
9th grade – East Aurora High School

WHEN:  The Magnet School will open Fall of 2008

WHY: East Aurora School District hopes to serve a population of students who are eager to enrich and improve their education, specifically in the areas of math, science and technology.  Students will be academically challenged to apply their knowledge beyond the scope of a traditional classroom.

HOW DO I APPLY:  Pick up an application from your building principal or the parental liaison in your building. Complete the application form and return it to your school’s parent liaison, principal or to district’s central office by February 14th, 2008.   Be sure to complete the essay questions.  Parent may answer the question in their home language.   Give your teacher and school administrator or guidance counselor the recommendation forms (be sure you have filled in the top section).

APPLICATION CRITERIA:

  1. History of strong academic achievement (test scores)
  2. History of strong academic performance (grades)
  3. Ability to make contributions to the classroom (teacher recommendations)
  4. Personal interest in academic challenges as well as math, science, and technology  (application essays)

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE TURNED IN BY THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2008.
