Board Bits is an informational initiative designed to keep everyone informed as to what is happening with the Board of Education and throughout the district. The Board of Education has meetings on the 1st and 3rd weeks of the month. We understand that everyone cannot always attend the meetings, so we will issue Board Bits to provide a brief synopsis of each meeting.

Student Board Members
The Board of Education appointed the 2012-2013 Student Board Members, Karina Myrtil and Miguel Sanchez. Both are honor roll student-athletes who are heavily involved in co-curricular and community activities. Board Election Official, Lisa Morales, led the students in their oath.
School Board Election Petitions
School Board Petitions and Election Information for the April 2013 School Board Elections will be available on Tuesday, September 25 at the School Service Center – 417 Fifth Street. For more information, please call 630.299.5554.
After-School Programs
The Board approved after-school programs for all of our schools in conjunction with Community in Schools of Aurora (CIS). CIS continues to partner with the district in securing 21st Century grants to offset most of the costs. Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, CIS will use the district’s curriculum to provide tutoring in Math and Reading. CIS looking for district personnel who are seeking employment in the after-school programs. They also provide jobs to East Aurora students to work with elementary students.
FINANCE & PERSONNEL COMMITTEE
• The Board of Education approved two new clubs at East Aurora High School: The Tomcat Athletic Leaders and the Bilingual Honor Society.
• For the first time, the Board of Education approved stipends for the educators who sponsored athletic summer camps. Many sports had been served over the summer.
• The Board of Education approved the promotion of Mr. Tim Lowe from Dean of Students at East Aurora High School to Assistant Principal at Cowherd Middle School.
• The Board also approved the appointment of the new Assistant Director of Business, Diana McCluskey. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the Business Office. Formerly, she was a Special Education Teacher and a Certified Public Accountant. She is also a certified Chief School Business Official with a license in Accounting.
