A new percussion ensemble called “East Side Percussion” will debut later this month as part of the East Aurora band program. The ensemble is one of 12 of its kind in Illinois and will provide students with a unique, high-level performance opportunity.
The performance group is best described as an indoor marching ensemble geared specifically towards percussion. The group is scheduled to perform at half-time during a selection of basketball games this winter season, with an ultimate goal to participate in regional competitions and compete against other ensembles in the United States.
The ensemble provides percussionists at East High with a unique opportunity to be featured in a rigorous, creative performance. The new percussion ensemble is partially funded by a grant from the Kane County River Boat.
“We are excited to see the progress of this ensemble and for the opportunity to represent our school with a unique performance experience,” said band director Joe Kulick. “Students are working extremely hard to present a product that is cutting-edge and entertaining.”
Kulick invites the community to see the ensemble perform during half-time at upcoming basketball games.
East Side Percussion will perform at East High girls’ basketball games on January 20, 27, 28, and February 3rd. The ensemble will also perform at East High boys’ basketball games on February 7 and 11.
