East Aurora High School, Cowherd, Simmons, and Waldo Middle Schools were recently awarded a two-year grant of up to $1.5 million from Good Sports, Inc.
Good Sports matches corporate donations of physical education equipment and supplies with school districts in need by providing the donated equipment to the school.
Over the next two years, the four District 131 schools will be able to make up to six requests for physical education and athletic equipment. Requests are based on available materials that the company has to send. The amount of the grant is determined by school population and size.
“This grant allows us to bring new sports and activities to our physical education program, as well as after school activities,” said Camille Barclay, PE teacher at Waldo Middle School.
“We have already received hand weights and heavy fitness ropes to include in our fitness classes,” Barclay said.
“Waldo students will have the opportunity to try new things, hopefully giving the skill and motivation to be life-long, physically active people.”
