At their May 1 meeting, the East Aurora School District 131 Board of Education approved the appointment of Mr. Jonathan Simpson to serve as principal at Waldo Middle School.
Simpson has served as assistant principal of Waldo Middle School since 2015. He serves as a member of the school Improvement Team, PBIS Secondary Team, Leadership Team and Olweus Team. Mr. Simpson has helped lead and co-lead multiple professional developments that have focused on de-escalation techniques, assessment design, data analysis and social emotional learning. Simpson also serves on a variety of district level committees including; MTSS, discipline, and mentoring & Induction.
From 2014-2015 Simpson served as a Dean of Students at East Aurora High School for about 600 students, working with counselors and social workers to form a triangle team to help students with academic, behavioral, and social emotional needs. He worked with staff to address and handle classroom management needs. Simpson also collaborated with the school leadership and PBIS teams to develop new programs and initiatives to better meet the needs of all students.
From 2009-2014 Simpson taught a variety of social studies classes at East Aurora High School, serving on PLCs that focused on curriculum design, assessment design, data analysis, the alignment of curriculum and assessments to ELA Common Core standards.
Simpson obtained his Bachelor’s degree in history and education from Northern Illinois University, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from North Central College. He is currently working on my doctorate in educational administration at Aurora University.
