The East Aurora High School administration has decided to recruit a new head varsity basketball coach for 2017-18 season.
The decision comes after the District 131 Board of Education discussed the administration’s recommendation in closed session at their July 5 meeting.
"The Board heard and valued the support shown to the current coach by the community," said Dr. Mark McDonald, interim superintendent. "Ultimately they decided, since this is a stipend position, that it was appropriate for the high school administration to make this decision."
High school administration will begin interviewing internal candidates next week, with the goal of identifying the new coach before the next Board meeting on July 17.
In considering the support heard during the public comment portion of their meeting, the Board directed the high school administration meet again to carefully consider their decision.
Administrators met following the conclusion of the Board meeting and again in the morning, and reached the decision that it was time to recruit a new coach.
