Weather Related Closings & Delays
View the Weather Guidelines for children to understand the weather forecast and safety precautions to take.
When forecasts call for measurable snow, hazardous travel, or extreme temperatures, we realize the weather can have a direct effect on our students’ safety, as well as our staff and families.
If schools are closed due to weather conditions, an announcement will be posted and shared no later than 5:30 a.m. on the day classes are cancelled. If the decision can be made the evening before, this is always an advantage, but not always possible due to changing weather conditions. District 131 will only announce when schools are closed. If schools are open, it is then the responsibility of parents and guardians to determine for themselves if conditions allow for their children to attend school.

The superintendent, in consultation with other district administrators, makes the final decision whether to close school due to inclement weather. The decision is based on the ability of students to make it to and from school safely. When making the decision, the superintendent considers multiple factors, including the current and forecasted temperature, local snowfall, local wind chill, and whether our contracted bus companies are operating.
