A Letter from the Superintendent: April 2, 2020Una carta de la Superintendente: 2 de abril de 2020

Dear Students, Parents and East Aurora Community,

I hope this letter finds you and your family healthy and well. Please know that the needs of our students and the challenges families are facing remain a top priority. It goes without saying that this is a stressful situation for all of us. In my own home, the disruption of our daily lives and routines has been quite the challenge.

Even the strongest people need help sometimes. And when they do, there are some local resources available:

Family Counseling Services (70 S. River St. Aurora; (630) 844-2662), provides counseling for children, adolescents, and families, for those experiencing anxiety, depression, difficult behavior, parenting, and more. See the flyer on our website for more information.

The Family Service Association of greater Elgin provides crisis, psychiatric, and therapy support teams. Their flyer is on our See the flyer posted on our website, or call their CARES Hotline at (800) 345-9049.

Remote Learning

District 131 will follow the guidelines announced by Governor Pritzker, and keep our schools closed through April 30. During this closure, on-site learning will remain suspended but our schools’ commitment to education remains, and learning will continue for all students – just through a different format.

Our district plans to continue the remote learning plan we have in place from April 6 through April 17.

We will be providing new learning packets for students in grades K through 5 starting Monday, April 6. Packets will be sent to all elementary families through Infinite Campus on April 6. Packets will also be available for pick-up at your child’s elementary school:

  • Monday, April 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 7, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Middle School and High School students will also continue to engage daily on their e-learning devices that were provided on March 13. The district is working with all staff over the next two weeks to enhance our current plans and make connections weekly to check-in with students and families for academic needs and emotional support needs. Stay tuned for the up-coming enhanced plan and resources for Pre-K through high school.

Enhanced plan components include: K-5 technology component, Pre-K through 12th grade transition plan for whenever students return to school, Grades (3rd quarter, 4th quarter grading), event status and/or re-scheduling, and staff regular communications with students and parents.

Above all else, please know this about remote learning: the goal of remote learning is not to add stress, but to maintain learning, to the extent that this is possible under current circumstances.

Thank you for your continued support during this challenging time. My hope for all the community of East Aurora is that we remain healthy and safe. Please continue to stay at home as much as possible, and practice social distancing whenever you are out. I look forward to the day when we can open our schools again and welcome our students back to the classroom.

Dr. Jennifer Norrell, Superintendent
East Aurora School District
