Dieterich Students Recognize Black History MonthDieterich Students Recognize Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, Mrs. White spent 2 weeks in her classroom talking to her students about making a change in the world and what every single person can do to make the world a better place. They talked about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how he responded to hate and violence with love and peace. They talked about the ugly parts of history and the ugly parts of our current world. They analyzed the work of black artists who have addressed injustice, discrimination, and hate as a way to make a change in the world.

From Mrs. White:
“We ALL have the power to make the world a better place EVERY SINGLE DAY. We should all be making an effort for the sake of our future. Recent events in Aurora hit really close to home…… going into work and displaying the collaborative artwork that my students have been making and reflecting on our conversations gives me peace and hope. Sometimes it’s hard to be hopeful when the world seems hopeless. There IS good in the world. BE THE CHANGE!!!!”
