District recognizes volunteer barbers and beauticians

At its Aug. 24 meeting, the District 131 Board of Education and Superintendent Robert Halverson recognized local barbers and beauticians who volunteered their time and talents at the district’s Back to School Fair.

The fair was held Aug. 8 at East Aurora High School. During the event, the volunteers provided free haircuts for dozens of East Aurora students, helping them prepare for the first day of school feeling confident and ready to return to the classroom.

“Starting a new school year with confidence makes all the difference for a child. When our students walk into their classrooms feeling good about themselves, it sets the tone for everything from academic focus to social connection,” Halverson said.

Those recognized from Scum Lounge Barbershop were Angel Mejia, Joshua Sandoval, Alejandro Ramirez, Juan Ochoa, Alvaro Gutierrez Jr., Benjamin Gutierrez, Bryan Valle, Alfonso Guzman, Arnulfo Carrillo and Danniel Maldonado. Debi Lerma of Do or Dye Designs was also recognized.

Halverson praised the volunteers for giving freely of their time, talent and energy to support students and families.

“Community partnerships take many forms, but few are as personal and impactful as this hands-on service to our children and families,” Halverson said.
