About the Board of Education

The East Aurora School District 131 Board of Education sets policies that guide district operations. The board consists of seven volunteer members elected to four-year terms.

Board elections are held in April of odd-numbered years. Members serve staggered terms, with three or four seats on the ballot at each election.

The board’s responsibilities include:

Approving courses of study and textbooks.
Adopting the district’s annual budget.
Overseeing the construction, furnishing and maintenance of district facilities.
Making employment decisions.
Evaluating the superintendent.

Board Meetings

Board of Education Meetings

At bi-monthly school board meetings, the Board transacts the legal business of the school district through discussion and voting among the members.

All regular Board of Education meetings are held on the first and third Mondays at 7 p.m. in the board room at the EASD 131 Administrative Center located at 310 Seminary Avenue, Aurora, IL 60505. If the first or third Monday falls on a holiday, the meeting is held on a Tuesday.

The Board of Education also meets in three standing committees: Building & Grounds, Curriculum, and Finance. Schedules, agendas and minutes for those meetings are available on this website.

All Board of Education meetings and all Board committee meetings are open to the public.

Board Training

The Illinois Association of School Boards requires that members of the Board of Education complete training. For additional information, see Board Policy 2:120 – Board Member Development. (This policy does not apply to student members of the Board of Education). The following table contains training and development activities that were completed by each Board member.
