Adriana AEEF scholar

Adriana Nava-Villanueva is thriving in her life as a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is happy and grateful that her AEEF Scholarship has helped her to realize a dream.

Adriana is pursuing a degree in English with a minor in Spanish, and reports that she has loved nearly every class she has taken.  Among her favorites have been classes such as Grimm Brothers Fairy Tales, Mexican-American history, and British Literature.  She says that going to college is a dream come true for herself and her family, and that as a first-generation student at an “amazing school,” she could not be happier.

Adriana credits her mentor, Lettycia Terrones who is a doctoral candidate, for being a major part of her success.  She also attends Latinx (a support organization for Latina/o students) related activities, and stops at the Latinx cultural center on campus every week.

She looks upon this year as one of important personal growth as well as academic achievement.

“The thing I love most about being here is that every day I have been at this school has offered a major opportunity for self-growth and self-reliance,” Adriana said. “I have learned more about myself and my work ethic in a single semester here than I have in my entire previous life.”

“I really am incredibly thankful for the opportunity this scholarship has given me to enjoy my education and make something of myself.”

Adriana AEEF scholar

Adriana Nava-Villanueva está triunfando en su vida como estudiante en University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Está feliz y agradecida de que su beca de la AEEF le haya ayudado a realizar un sueño.

Adriana está estudiando una licenciatura en inglés con una asignatura secundaria (minor) en español y afirma que le han encantado casi todas las clases que ha tomado.  Entre sus favoritas están las clases de Cuentos de Hadas de los Hermanos Grimm, Historia Mexicana-Americana y Literatura Británica. Dice que ir a la universidad es un sueño hecho realidad para ella y su familia y que como estudiante de primera generación en una “escuela increíble”, no podría estar más contenta.

Adriana atribuye a su mentora, Lettycia Terrones, que es candidata al doctorado, una parte importante de su éxito. También asiste a las actividades relacionadas con Latinx (una organización de apoyo a los estudiantes latinos) y pasa por el centro cultural Latinx de la universidad cada semana.

Considera este año como uno de importante crecimiento personal así como de logros académicos.

“Lo que más me gusta de estar aquí es que cada día que he estado en esta escuela ha sido una gran oportunidad para crecer y ser autosuficiente”, dijo Adriana. “He aprendido más sobre mí misma y mi ética de trabajo en un solo semestre aquí que en toda mi vida anterior”.

“Estoy increíblemente agradecida por la oportunidad que me ha dado esta beca de disfrutar de mi educación y hacer algo por mí misma”.

La AEEF felicita a Adriana y no puede estar más orgullosa de ella.
