Thank you for your interest in being a Substitute Teacher (Guest Teacher) and/or Substitute Teacher Assistant for East Aurora School District 131. Please review the following information which will guide you through the requirements and application process.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR GUEST TEACHERS (SUBSTITUTES)

To be considered a guest teacher with our district, you must be licensed and registered to teach in Kane County. Licensing and registration can be completed through the Kane County Regional Office of Education (ROE) in Geneva, IL.

Those interested in guest teaching must be licensed either by a state approved Professional Educator’s License (PEL) or a standard Substitute Teaching License (SUB). To obtain a SUB license you must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

Please be sure to complete the registration process for Kane County as you must be properly registered in the county you plan to work within the state of Illinois.

APPLICATION PROCESS

All Guest Teacher applicants may complete an online application via the Employment webpage by going to www.d131.org > About > Employment > Certified External Positions or by clicking HERE.

  • All Guest Teacher applicants are subject to reference checks. THREE references are required on your application, one of them being a supervisor/manager or someone that has evaluated you in the past.
  • Please provide accurate contact information for your professional references, including a current email address and phone number(s).
  • You are welcome to upload relevant documents to your online application such as college transcripts, reference letters and resumes.
  • Once your references are completed, Human Resources (HR) will contact you for an appointment to fill out appropriate paperwork. During this time you will be asked to provide identification (driver’s license or state ID and social security card or valid passport or birth certificate) and complete the pre-hire documents.
  • Once you have received your appointment with D131, Guest Teacher applicants will be required to complete fingerprinting at the Kane County ROE. This can be done on your own time once you receive your HR appointment and you are responsible for fingerprint payment. Once you schedule your appointment, please inform the ROE to send your prints to District 131.
  • To schedule your fingerprint appointment with the Kane County ROE, please visit their web site: http://www.kaneroe.org/fingerprinting/.
  • Guest Teachers will also be required submit a Tuberculosis Test (TB) test prior to starting. If you have received one within 90 days of the date of your HR appointment, that will suffice.

To be considered as a substitute teacher assistant in our district be licensed and registered in Kane County. Licensing and registration can be completed through the Kane County Regional Office of Education (ROE) in Geneva, IL.

Those interested in substituting as a teacher assistant must obtain an ELS (Educator License with Stipulations), however, if you already have a current SUB license or PEL, you do not need to pursue a separate ELS PARA License.

Please be sure to complete the registration process for Kane County as you must be properly registered in the county you plan to work within the state of Illinois.
