All Dieterich students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade created art projects based off of the Dr. Seuss book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go. Students completed goal-setting activities that included thinking about what they want to be when they grow up. Dieterich’s Art Teacher, Mrs. White, lead all students in creating a developmentally appropriate hot air balloon art project as a culminating schoolwide theme for the end of the year.
Kindergarten and first grade students focused on learning rainbow order, primary and secondary colors, and practicing many different types of lines. Second grade students applied variations in size to create depth in a drawing and also created 3D artwork using paper. Third grade students applied new art-making techniques to complete the printmaking process. Fourth grade students created a landscape and incorporated their hot air balloon into it. Finally, fifth grade students created a 3D sculptural balloon using paper.
