The Aurora East Educational Foundation is proud to announce that Gonzalo Magana has been awarded the Frances and Thomas Strong Education Scholarship. The Strong Scholarship is awarded to a student who will pursue a career in Education.
Gonzalo graduated from East High School in 2019, and has been attending Waubonsee Community College. He reports that he has been “getting through” some general education requirements with the hope of transferring to North Central College.
Since beginning at WCC, he has joined the Student Support Service, a group created to help lower income first generation students. He has also been in involved with Triumph, which is a group of male students of color providing support through mentoring and other services, and which also does community service.
Gonzalo’s goal is to become an English teacher at the high school level in District 131, and also to coach wrestling, the sport he loves.
“Life after East Aurora has moved very fast, and I try to be a better person every day,” Gonzalo said.
The AEEF believes that Gonzalo exemplifies the true TOMCAT spirit, and is very proud of his accomplishments. The Foundation wishes him success, and will welcome him if and when he returns to District 131 as a teacher and leader for our young people.
