Bardwell’s basketball program continued its winning streak on Saturday, February 16, 2019 when its boy’s basketball team won the District 131 elementary basketball tournament. Capping off an undefeated season, the boys rallied at the end of a long day to take the trophy home. This was a narrow victory as they barely beat Gates Elementary School 24-23. This is coach Bonnie Keller’s second tournament win of the season as the Bardwell girls basketball team won their tournament just last week.
This is the first time both teams have won their tournaments i in the same season with Mrs. Keller as coach. In addition, this is the first time any elementary school has claimed both championships since 2007. That year also saw a double win for Bardwell, but under the leadership of different coaches. Trophies commemorating the teams’ victories proudly sit in the main office this week.
The two winning teams will combine on Wednesday, February 20 to take on Bardwell staff in the annual staff vs. student game.
