On Sept 22, East Aurora High School’s ECO and FCCLA clubs participated in Aurora’s GreenFest which was held at the Prisco Community Center and McCullough Park. GreenFest served as an opportunity for EA students to meet other local people and organizations that share the same ideals and passions about making choices to leave the earth a better place. There was a lot to see and do including petting skunks, reptiles and chickens, learning about solar power and nuclear energy and making ecofriendly buttons. Eco Club students made smoothies using a Blender Bike. The Blender bike allowed the students to make fresh made to order smoothies without using any fossil fuel based energy source. Eco Club also sold fresh produce from the East Aurora High School garden, club t shirts and Smencils, scented pencils made from recycled paper. EAHS’ FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) club sold over $1,000 worth of food made with produce from the EAHS garden. The EAHS Garden has already yielded over 2600 pounds of produce, utilized by the culinary classes, FCCLA clubs, and families and members of the EA community.
