Learning From the People Who Help Our Communities: 2nd Grade Visits Kuiper Farm!Aprendiendo de las personas que ayudan a nuestras comunidades: ¡Los alumnos de segundo grado visitan la granja Kuiper!

BSA’s second graders stepped out of the classroom and into the real world as they traveled to Kuiper Farm to explore how people, places, and nature work together to supply the goods and services our communities depend on. The field trip perfectly connected to the 2nd-grade Social Studies unit of study, People Who Supply Our Goods and Services, from myWorld Chapter 2: People, Places, Nature.

Meeting the People Who Provide Our Goods
At Kuiper Farm, students met farmers—real-life community helpers who work every day to raise animals, grow food, and take care of the land. The farmers explained how they provide important goods, such as milk, vegetables, eggs, and grains. Students got to see firsthand how these goods begin at the farm long before they reach grocery stores or homes.

Exploring How Nature Supports Us
As part of their myWorld learning, students have been studying how nature affects where people live and work. At Kuiper Farm, they saw this idea in action. They explored fields, barns, and animal areas while learning how sunlight, soil, water, and weather help farmers do their jobs. Students discovered that farms depend on nature just as much as people depend on farms.

Understanding Services on the Farm
The farmers also explained the services they provide—such as caring for animals, maintaining equipment, and protecting natural resources. Students asked thoughtful questions about how farmers keep animals healthy and how they make sure food is safe for everyone.
We are grateful to Kuiper Farm for welcoming our students and helping them connect their Social Studies unit to the world around them!
