Spotlight on Students and StaffCentro de Atención Sobre los Estudiantes y el Personal

The Board of Education meeting on Monday, May 15 was jam-packed with parents and staff as it was a celebratory evening honoring students and staff.

Thirty-two students were recognized at the elementary level for their artistic creativity as their artwork decorated the district boardroom at the Administrative Center.  

Also celebrated was Magnet Academy student, Vania Chavez.  Vania entered a writing competition sponsored by the Illinois State Poetry Society and won first place for the Vice President’s Challenge Award.  The Poetry Society published an anthology of the prize poems by Illinois students and the book “Fresh Ink” is now being sold on Amazon featuring her writing piece.  

Rounding out the evening, the Board of Education recognized staff members nominated for the Kane County Regional Office of Education’s Educator of the Year awards as well as the Illinois State Board of Education’s Those Who Excel awards.

The ISBE Those Who Excel awards honor individuals who have made a significant contribution to Illinois public schools.  This year there were 6 staff members and one team nominated.  The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 20 in Bloomington-Normal.

On May 5 the Kane County Regional Office of Education recognized 36 nominees at their annual Educator of the Year awards banquet.  Winners in various categories were recognized that evening including seven East Aurora Tomcats.  Waldo Middle School special education teacher, Kiel Douglass was named Teacher of the Year in the Middle School category.  The staff nominees are as follow:

La reunión de la Junta de Educación del lunes 15 de mayo estuvo muy llena de padres y personal, ya que fue una noche de celebración en honor a los estudiantes y el personal.

Treinta y dos estudiantes de primaria fueron reconocidos por su creatividad artística, ya que sus obras decoraron la sala de juntas del distrito en el Centro Administrativo.  

También celebró la estudiante de Magnet Academy, Vania Chávez.  Vania participó en un concurso de escritura patrocinado por la Sociedad de Poesía del Estado de Illinois y ganó el primer lugar en el Vice President’s Challenge Award.  La Sociedad de Poesía publicó una antología de los poemas premiados de los estudiantes de Illinois y ya se vende en Amazon el libro “Fresh Ink” con su obra.  

Completando la noche, la Junta de Educación reconoció a los miembros del personal nominados para los premios al Educador del Año de la Oficina Regional de Educación del Condado de Kane, así como a los premios a Aquellos que Sobresalen de la Junta de Educación del Estado de Illinois (ISBE).

Los premios de ISBE de Aquellos Que Sobresalen honran a individuos que han hecho una contribución significativa a las escuelas públicas de Illinois. Este año han sido nominados 6 miembros del personal y un equipo.  La ceremonia del premio se celebrará el sábado 20 de mayo en Bloomington-Normal.

El 5 de mayo, la Oficina Regional de Educación del Condado de Kane reconoció a 36 nominados en su banquete anual de premios al Educador del Año.  Esa noche se reconoció a los ganadores de varias categorías, entre ellos siete Tomcats de East Aurora.  El maestro de educación especial de Waldo Middle School, Kiel Douglass, fue nombrado Maestro del Año en la categoría de Escuela Secundaria.  El personal nominado es el siguiente:
