Statement following former principal found guilty for failure to report Declaración posterior sobre el exdirector declarado culpable por no reportar

Today East Aurora School District 131 officials learned that former O’Donnell Elementary principal teacher Matt Willigman was found guilty of the offense of failure to report suspected child abuse as a mandated reporter.

Back on September 3, 2019, the District 131 Board of Education accepted Mr. Willigman’s resignation.

Every District 131 employee and Board member signs a statement upon employment or election acknowledging their mandated reporter status and responsibilities.

The safety and security of our schools and students is always our top priority. All District staff members are mandated reporters to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). This is a responsibility that is consistently emphasized both at the time of initial employment and on a regular basis through required training offered through Global Compliance Network (GCN) and the Department of Children and Family Services on-line training for all District staff.

We will continue to reinforce our responsibilities through annual staff training on recognizing signs of abuse and neglect and reinforcing for every member of the District 131 family the importance of reporting any suspicions of child abuse or neglect. As a reminder to the District 131 community, any suspected child abuse or neglect can be reported to DCFS at 1-800-25-ABUSE, or to the Aurora Police Department via 9-1-1 or (630) 256-5000.

Hoy, se informó a la administración del Distrito Escolar 131 del Este de Aurora que el director anterior de la Escuela Primaria O’Donnell, Matt Willigman fue declarado culpable del delito de no reportar la sospecha de abuso infantil como informante obligatorio por mandato.

El pasado 3 de septiembre de 2019, la Junta de Educación del Distrito 131 aceptó la renuncia del Sr. Willigman.

Cada empleado del Distrito 131 y miembro de la Junta firma una declaración al ser contratado o electo; en el cual admite su estatus y responsabilidades como informante obligatorio por mandato.

Nuestra principal prioridad es siempre la seguridad y bienestar de nuestras escuelas y estudiantes. TODOS los miembros del personal del Distrito son informantes obligatorios por mandato al Departamento de Servicios para Niños(as) y Familias de Illinois (DCFS por sus siglas en inglés). Esta es una responsabilidad que se enfatiza al momento de contratación inicial; y con regularidad a través de la capacitación que se ofrece mediante Global Compliance Network (GCN por sus siglas en inglés) y la capacitación en-línea del Departamento de Servicios para Niños(as) y Familias para todo el personal del Distrito.

Continuaremos reforzando nuestras responsabilidades mediante la capacitación anual de nuestro personal para reconocer las señales de abuso y negligencia; y para reforzar en cada miembro de la familia del Distrito 131 la importancia de reportar cualquier sospecha de abuso o negligencia infantil. Como recordatorio a la comunidad del Distrito 131, cualquier sospecha de abuso o negligencia infantil puede reportarse a la oficina de DCFS o al número telefónico 1-800-25-ABUSE o al Departamento de la Policía de Aurora al número 9-1-1 o (630)-256-5000.
