On Saturday, February 17, 2018, the members of Waldo’s National Junior Honor Society and PeaceJam visited the local Aurora Animal Shelter. The students learned about how the animals come to the shelter as well as the process for adoption. Many of them thought it was only for dogs. They were surprised to learn that any type of animal dropped off must be accepted. Right now there are injured chickens at the shelter. The volunteers from the Humane Society spent their valuable time explaining how they care for the animals that have been through hard times and sad experiences. They focused on how animals should be treated and the students learned the responsibilities that always come with being a pet owner. The students also toured the facility and got to spend some time with the dogs and cats.
