About the Board of Education

The Board of Education is responsible for determining the policies which guide the operation of the district.

The East Aurora School District 131 Board of Education consists of seven volunteer members elected to serve terms of four years.

Elections are held on the first Tuesday in April of each odd-numbered year. Terms of members are staggered so there are three or four seats contested at each biennial election.

The State of Illinois gives local school boards responsibility for policies in these areas: approval of courses of study and textbooks, adoption of an annual budget, construction, furnishing and maintenance of facilities, employment, and evaluation of the superintendent.

At bi-monthly school board meetings, the Board transacts the legal business of the school district through discussion and voting among the members.

All regular Board of Education meetings are held on the first and third Mondays at 7 p.m. in the board room at the EASD 131 Administrative Center located at 310 Seminary Avenue, Aurora, IL 60505. If the first or third Monday falls on a holiday, the meeting is held on a Tuesday.

The Board of Education also meets in three standing committees: Building & Grounds, Curriculum, and Finance. Schedules, agendas and minutes for those meetings are available on this website.

All Board of Education meetings and all Board committee meetings are open to the public.

Políticas de la Junta

La Junta Educativa es responsable de determinar las políticas que guían el funcionamiento del distrito.

La Junta Educativa del Distrito Escolar del Este de Aurora 131 consta de siete miembros voluntarios elegidos para servir términos de cuatro años.

Las elecciones se llevan a cabo el primer martes de abril de cada año impar. Los términos de los miembros son escalonados, por lo que hay tres o cuatro escaños disputados en cada elección bienal.

El Estado de Illinois otorga a los consejos escolares locales la responsabilidad de las políticas en estas áreas: aprobación de cursos de estudio y libros de texto, adopción de un presupuesto anual, construcción, equipamiento y mantenimiento de instalaciones, empleo y evaluación del superintendente.

Board Room Training Welcome CenterEn las reuniones bimensuales de la junta escolar, la Junta gestiona los asuntos legales del distrito escolar mediante debates y votaciones entre los miembros.

Todas las reuniones regulares de la Junta Educativa se llevan a cabo el primer y tercer lunes a las 7 p.m. en la sala de juntas del Centro Administrativo ubicado en 310 Seminary Avenue, Aurora, IL 60505. Si el primer o tercer lunes cae en un día festivo, la reunión se hara en un martes.
